Xfinity Mobile – Great Mobile Service for Less

A different kind of network, designed to save you money

Xfinity Mobile is available to Xfinity Internet customers. Here’s what you need to know to sign up.

XFINITY MOBILE FACTS

• Available plans include by the gig (1GB starts at $15 a month) or unlimited data ($45 a month).
• Additional lines of unlimited data now cost $30 per line each month.
• The more data by the Gig customers purchase, the less each extra GB costs.
• You must have Xfinity Internet to sign up for Xfinity Mobile.
• Service comes via Verizon and Comcast’s network of Xfinity hotspots.
• Xfinity Mobile now supports 5G.

Xfinity Mobile  is Comcast’s mobile provider, bundled with your internet and TV services. The idea is that if you’re already getting internet and cable from Comcast, you might as well include your mobile service, too. When bundling those services together Xfinity Mobile becomes a good value, and a no-brainer.

Xfinity Mobile was launched in 2017 and has grown to 4.6 million customers.

Xfinity Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (or MVNO), which piggybacks on the existing network of one or more of the major carriers. Comcast’s uses Verizon’s network — including 5G coverage — coupled with the internet provider’s own Wi-Fi hotspots.

For wireless customers, getting service from an MVNO can provide a great value, and lower price. In this case it works for Xfinity customers.

Plans and Pricing

With Xfinity Mobile, it’s all about the bundling, as it is with Comcast’s other services. In fact, you aren’t even eligible for Xfinity Mobile unless you use Comcast as your internet service provider.

Verizon’s postpaid unlimited data plans cost between $70 and $90 for a single line of service. However, Xfinity Mobile uses Verizon’s network and charges about half that price.

Xfinity Mobile updated the pricing for its unlimited plans, and their pricing breaks down as follows:

  • Unlimited: $45/month for one line, $60/month for two lines, $90/month for three lines and $120/month for four lines (reduced speeds after 20GB)
  • By the Gig: 1GB =$15/mo, 3GB = $30/month and 10GB = $60/month; pay $15 per GB if you exceed your chosen amount; no rollover data

Xfinity Mobile: How it works

Xfinity Mobile is available exclusively to Comcast subscribers. The wireless service relies on Verizon’s network along with access to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide.

If you subscribe, you can pick between an unlimited data plan and paying only for the data you use. Unlimited nationwide talk and text are included regardless of your data choice. Xfinity Mobile users pay no access fees for up to five lines. Some carriers charge subscribers as much as $20 per line in access fees on top of their regular monthly data plan rate, though for unlimited plans, those access fees are often baked into the monthly rate.

Comcast TV subscribers will be able to use the Xfinity Stream TV App on their smartphone to stream live TV, on-demand content and shows stored on a cloud-DVR wherever they are.

Eligibility Requirement

Xfinity Mobile is unlike other mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) because you must be an Xfinity internet customer to sign up for the service. If you sign up for Xfinity Mobile and later cancel Xfinity internet because you move or for any other reason, you can continue to use Xfinity Mobile. However, there will be a $25/month per line fee added to your bill.

Xfinity Mobile: No contract required

You can cancel your Xfinity Mobile plan within 30 days of your next billing cycle date and you are only responsible for charges for the current month on your account and any remaining device payments you might have. In the first 30 days, you can cancel and return your device for a full refund, minus a $35 restocking fee. Beyond 30 days, you would be responsible for the restocking fee and any outstanding charges on the device.

Xfinity Mobile: What devices are supported?

Device selection had been the biggest downside to Xfinity Mobile. However, in recent years Xfinity has increased their selection available.

The latest iPhones and Samsung devices make up most of the 20+ phones that Xfinity Mobile sells online and in its stores, but there are a couple of options for under $200.

Xfinity Mobile now allows you to bring select Androids to its network. They include most Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices. Unlocked iPhones are also compatible.

In addition to BYOD, you can purchase phones, tablets and smartwatches from Xfinity Mobile.

Conclusion

Being a Comcast customer is a great advantage if you take advantage of the size of their network and buying power. There is always lots of issues to take care of when you change mobile service carriers. However, the cost savings and the hotspots available to you might be a great opportunity to take advantage of.
