Xfinity Internet Review and Prices

Comcast Xfinity

Xfinity continues to deliver the bandwidth consistently to consumers. A wide range of services options and coverage offer something for everyone.

Who is Xfinity?

Xfinity, which was introduced in 2010 by its parent company Comcast, is one of the most well-known internet providers in the country. Overall, Comcast is one of the largest cable providers in the U.S., and it has 55 million customers worldwide. In 2019, Comcast grew its total high-speed internet customers by 1.4 million. Xfinity gigabit internet is now available to nearly 58 million homes and businesses.

Comcast dominates technology services and continues to form partnerships with other media companies owning AT&T Broadband, NBC Universal, and British media company Sky.

Xfinity Internet is available in 39 states and Washington, D.C. so if you live in or around the city it’s likely available to you. The company offers both cable and fiber plans. In addition to being an internet service provider (ISP), it offers Xfinity TV, Xfinity Voice phone service, Xfinity Mobile wireless service, and Xfinity Home Security services.

Xfinity internet prices and plans

Xfinity’s internet prices vary based on your location. For example if you live in the Northeast it can be almost double the rates of western states. However, it’s very difficult to list all the contingencies. So, it’s best to just click on the link and enter your zipcode for a quick look.

Xfinity service fees

Sadly, there’s no getting away from Xfinity fees, just like with every ISP. Here are a few to watch out for:

Professional installation: $89.99; Xfinity says you can get pro installation even at night or on weekends. One heads up though: your pro install price might change based on where you live.

Self-installation kit: $15; You might be able to find a deal or negotiate for a free Comcast Xfinity self-install kit.

One-time fees: Make sure you understand which one-time fees you’re subject to, like activation fees, before you order. As always, we recommend negotiating lower fees if you can.

Early termination fees: There’s a 30-day “money-back guarantee” period to cancel after signing up for a 12-month Xfinity plan. After that, you can expect to pay a fee for the remaining months of your service contract. Xfinity doesn’t list exact amounts, but you can expect to at least pay for the months of service remaining on your contract.

Xfinity data caps

Almost every Xfinity plan has a 1 terabyte (1 TB, or 1,000 gigabytes) data limit. That’s a pretty significant amount of data, and it matches what Cox and CenturyLink offer.

That data limit likely isn’t an issue—unless your entire family or roommates love to stream shows on Netflix just as much as you do. So if you do somehow manage to exceed the 1-TB limit, you can expect to pay $10 for each additional 50 GB. And Xfinity also lets you upgrade to unlimited data for $50 a month more.

Xfinity Bundles and Extras

Beyond its internet-only plans, Xfinity also lets you build out a custom plan and offers multi-product discounts for the duration of the contract. Be aware that you may have to sign a contract for two years instead of one if you add Xfinity Extra or Preferred TV to your bundle.

For a two-product bundle, such as internet plus TV, you’ll save $20 per month. If you go for a “triple play” and add a third product (either Xfinity Voice or Xfinity Home Security), you’ll get a $40 discount. And if you go with four Xfinity products, that will garner a $60 discount. You can learn more about its home security service in our review of Xfinity Home Security.

Since the strength of Xfinity is it’s variety of available services the rates of bundles are very good and you should look into it if at all interested. This is not like Verizon.

Xfinity Wi-Fi ( access to public hot spots) is also included for no extra charge with every internet plan. This is a great additional feature, which is an “extra” since it’s no charge.

Conclusion

Overall the main attraction with Xfinity is it’s variety of services, options, and coverage. You won’t get the lightening speeds of Verizon, but if that’s not your main priority Xfinity may be a much more attractive option.
